About

Legacy Lodge #678

Legacy Lodge is located in Des Moines, Iowa and is a Charted Lodge under the Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A.M. Legacy Lodge #678 is comprised of men who are committed to bettering himself, his community, and the world. As a fraternal organization, our Brothers are on a journey of self-discovery believing in something greater than himself, a journey in which he will be supported by other good men.

Fraternal Brotherhood

As Masons, our Brothers are connected to men from across the World who share in the ideals of brotherly love, relief and truth. At Legacy Lodge, our Brothers are from all walks of life, cultures and religions. From young professionals to seasoned professionals to retirees–the Brothers of Legacy Lodge have a brotherhood that transcends age gaps and careers, which allow us to build a strong, vibrant and growing Masonic Lodge.

Knowledge

As Masons, one of our core tenets is the concept of truth. To understand truth, we must first learn–from each other and from the great works of literature, art, science and history. At Legacy Lodge, our monthly meetings are deliberately short, so that immediately following our monthly stated meeting, our Brothers typically enjoy a meal together with a featured speaker who shares an educational presentation, leads an intriguing discussion or imparts insight on a variety of masonic topics.

The Bigger picture

As Masons, we join a Lodge and each Lodge is charted by its respective Grand Lodge. In the United States, each State had a Grand Lodge jurisdiction. Thus, for Iowa, Legacy Lodge #678 is a charted lodge under the auspices of the Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A.M. The Grand Lodge of Iowa is based in Cedar Rapids and also houses one of the most extensive collections of masonic literature in the Iowa Masonic Library and Museum.

Testimonials From Our Legacy Lodge #678 Brothers

Brother Rob T.

“When I completed my service in the Marine Corps, I was searching for another organization with a great sense of camaraderie, and which would help me become a better man and a better leader. I’ve found all of that and more in Freemasonry; I’m proud to be a Mason.”

Brother Mason B.

  • My friend and neighbor suggested to me that there was this “thing” I ought to do. I trusted him, filled out some paperwork and dropped into a whole new world called Freemasonry. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my adult life. Now, nearly all of my closest friends are Freemasons. It is true that Masonry makes good men better, if you are willing to put in the work. It gives so much more than it takes.

  • I don’t come from a long line of Freemasons; I’m actually not aware of any Freemasons in my lineage. I was asked by a good friend if I would be interested in joining [via Invitation To Petition], and I didn’t know much about the organization before that. To me, the organization represents a group of individuals who have gathered around and represent a set of values that I truly respect: honesty, precision, education, and trust – things I strive for and qualities within individuals who I want to surround myself with. I am very appreciative to be a part of the organization.

  •  “Masonry has been a tradition in my family since before any of us can remember, and in the spirit of this tradition, I submitted my petition as soon as I was able at the age of eighteen. In that time, I’ve realized that the lessons you gain from the ritual and from your more seasoned brothers keep you on the right path as the world tries its best to have us spinning in circles. The brotherhood of a Lodge is essential for the preservation of a renaissance perspective in post-modern America, and I could not recommend it highly enough to like-minded, classical men.”

    Brother Mason B.
  • “I became a Mason mostly due to the influence of my Grandfather. He didn’t talk about the fraternity a lot but, when he did, he did so with pride. I made the decision to join the fraternity at my Grand Father’s Masonic funeral service. I was deeply impressed with the brethren of his lodge who gathered at his funeral to share in a service and pay their respects. The service they shared was meaningful and dignified. They were not just a social club, but a band of brothers. I decided that day that I would become a Mason, if the fraternity would admit me, to share in the Masonic brotherhood I saw displayed so clearly that day. Today I would say that one of the things I am most proud of is being a Master Mason.”

Brother Tim W.

“I initially joined Masonry because of its history, but its philosophy is what keeps me a member. Many Masons also enjoy spending time with their brothers, and that definitely enriches the experience. But I was looking for an intellectual environment that challenges me, and if you really study Masonic ritual and philosophy, you can spend the rest of your life engaged with it.”

Legacy Lodge #678

Our Story

Legacy Lodge’s story is unique in that it is a Lodge that has grown from the ground-up, with Brothers dedicated to making our lives better through educational seminars and social events that strengthen the brotherhood.

Legacy Lodge #678 meets at the Des Moines Scottish Rite for its Stated Meeting (i.e. Monthly Business Meeting)–however, our meetings aren’t long and boring. Rather, we endeavor to keep the business portion of the meeting to under 30 minutes.

Following the monthly Stated Meeting (held the last Thursday night of each month at 6 p.m.), the brothers venture to a local Des Moines restaurant for dinner or cater a meal-in at the Scottish Rite combined with an educational program–either way, the Brothers of Legacy Lodge enjoy fellowship and lively discussions for the remainder of the evening.
